Health Working Group Fellow Position Announcement
The New York City Panel on Climate Change (NPCC) is an independent advisory board of researchers and practitioners with expertise on issues pertaining to climate change. Appointed by the Mayor every four years, the NPCC is charged with providing the city science-based assessments of future climate risks and potential impacts to inform adaptation and resilience measures.
The Health Working Group (HWG) is one of six working groups established by the 4th NPCC. The HWG will compile and review evidence concerning climate-sensitive human exposures, vulnerable populations, and health impacts in New York City, updating the findings from prior NPCC assessments, including the 2nd NPCC public health assessment. The HWG assessment will center on considerations of racial and social equity in its work processes and products, building on the framework presented in Foster et al., 2019, and incorporating input from the 4th NPCC Equity Working Group.
The Health Working Group is recruiting a graduate fellow to participate in and support the assessment process through activities including (but not limited to):
- research, writing, and organizing tasks that will include compiling, reviewing, and organizing relevant literature and data;
- assisting with overall organization, project, and meeting management; and
- preparing presentations summarizing research findings.
Candidates should be master’s or doctoral level students in public health, environmental science, urban planning, or another relevant field, and ideally have research interests that align with the NPCC charge. Excellent written, research, and data analysis skills are required.
The graduate fellow will work under the supervision of the HWG co-chairs and collaborate with HWG members and other fellows. The fellow will participate in regular HWG meetings, generally held every other week, and assist with scheduling, documenting, and following up with members on action items. The fellow would be able to contribute to and co-author research and reports produced by the NPCC HWG members.
The graduate fellow will be paid an hourly rate of at least $21 per hour for up to 35 hours per week during the Summer 2022 semester. The position may be extended to the Fall semester for up to 20 hours per week, depending on the availability of funds and candidate preferences.
