Calling all residents of Northern Manhattan: fill out a survey on cooling centers and extreme heat! The summer of 2023 was the hottest one on record, and it's important that we do everything we can to protect ourselves and others.
An undergraduate senior thesis project at Barnard College is collecting responses to better understand how cooling centers can increase access to air conditioning and help protect heat-vulnerable communities, as well as what residents want and need from policymakers. Overall, this project aims to build on already existing research and work done to create actionable recommendations to shape policy and planning initiatives to improve cooling centers and other heat-related projects.
To fill out the survey, you can visit https://barnard.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_ebuBZGbCVvMRNoa.
You must be 18 years or older and a resident of Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood. The first 40 people to complete the survey will receive a $7 e-gift card as compensation.
